Khupe, Chamisa Should Have Established A Strategic Plan Following Supreme Court Ruling - Opinion

NewsDay columnist, Kennedy Kaitano has said the reinstated MDC-T leader, Thokozani Khupe and Nelson Chamisa, leader of the MDC Alliance should have already made plans in preparation of the aftermath of the expected congress.

Kaitano said following the Supreme Court ruling which ordered the MDC-T to hold an extraordinary congress to choose Morgan Tsvangirai’s successor, both Khupe and Chamisa should have gone back to their ‘factions’ to map out a way forward in the event that the extraordinary congress suggested succeeds or fails. He said:

What both you and Chamisa should have done is go back to your MDC-T which had its congress in 2018 and talk to your colleagues in those respective institutions and say, “what do we do in the next 120 days in the event that the extraordinary congress suggested by the Supreme Court succeeds, what do we do if the extraordinary congress does not succeed?”

Kaitano urged Khupe to immediately mend relations with members of the MDC-T, which she formed in 2018.

These remarks come when tensions between the Khupe and Chamisa camps have risen to new heights after Khupe’s youths, with the help of soldiers and police, took over Morgan Tsvangirai House, formerly known as Harvest House.
