COVID-19 Cases Rise To 178 After 4 Returnees Test Positive

The Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) has announced that confirmed COVID-19 have increased to 178 after 4 people tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday.

All Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces now have coronavirus cases after Mashonaland Central Province recorded 3 cases for the first time.

In its daily update for 31 May 2020, MoHCC said all the four cases are returnees, i is from Mozambique and 3 from South Africa. The Health Ministry said:

Four (4) cases tested positive for COVID-19 today. These are returnees from Mozambique (1) and South Africa (3) who are all isolated.

Today 214 RDT screening tests and 566 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 45 395 (27 323 RDT and 18 072 PCR).

To date, the total number of confirmed cases is 178, recovered 29, active cases 145 and 4 deaths. Since the onset of the outbreak on 20 March 2020.

MoHCC also encouraged members of the public to wear masks as well as adhere to other preventative measures including performing frequent and appropriate hand hygiene and physical distancing of at least 1 metre.
