Returnees At Quarantine Centers In Harare & Masvingo Protest Against Poor Living Conditions At The Facilities

Protests have reportedly erupted in Masvingo and Harare as returnees protest against poor living conditions and some demanding to be released to go home as they have overstayed at the quarantine facilities, The Standard reports.

According to the publication:

Frustrated with the living conditions and alleged lies from the department of social welfare over their long stay, the women threatened to storm out of the centre.

Some of the women said they had spent several weeks at the centre and were being exposed to Covid-19.

The women threatened to remove their clothes in protest over the treatment they were getting, accusing government of treating them like criminals.

Some of the women who spoke to the publication said they were being treated like criminals and they have overstayed at the quarantine centres.

In Masvingo, the situation got out of hand as a police officer was involved in a fistfight with a returnee as people were protesting at Masvingo Teacher’s college.
