"Replacing Chamisa Is Not The Solution," - Mtata

The General Secretary of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), Keneth Mtata has said the removing opposition MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa from power is not the panacea to Zimbabwe’s political and socio-economic woes.

His remarks come when some in the opposition MDC are pushing to have the reinstated MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe to take over the leadership from Chamisa who is accused of having usurped power from her. Mtata said:

If we are going to look at the numbers in terms of votes, you can’t have talks while disregarding the two top candidates.

Going by the figures, even those given by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, Advocate Chamisa had over two million votes close to President Mnangagwa of Zanu PF. These two have a significant influence on the population of Zimbabwe.

Mtata called for dialogue between Mnangagwa and Chamisa adding that the standoff between them was worsening the already dire situation.

Meanwhile, there are some, including award-winning Zimbabwean journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono who believe that a coalition government is not what Zimbabwe needs right now.

Chin’ono says Zimbabwe needs reforms and since ZANU PF has failed, even during the previous Government of National Unity (GNU) to implement reforms, it must relinquish power.
