Zimbabwe's Coronavirus Cases Rise From 56 To 63

Zimbabwe on Tuesday, 26 March 2020 recorded 7 more COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 63 up from 56.

In its daily update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) said the new cases were detected amongst returnees from South Africa who are quarantined in Beitbridge. The statement read in part:

Seven new cases tested positive for COVID-19 today. These are returnees from South Africa who are quarantined in Beitbridge. Today 653 Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) screening tests and 185 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 38 352 (22 402) and 15 950 PCR.

To date, the total number of confirmed cases is 63, recovered 25, active cases 34 and four deaths the onset of the outbreak on 20 March 2020.

The Ministry advised members of the public to use masks properly. This means wearing masks tightly around the chin and top of the nose, to avoid touching the mask while it is on the face and to immediately remove a mask when it becomes wet.
