Chaos At A Masvingo Quarantine Centre After 12 Returnees Test "Positive" For Corona

There was pandemonium at Masvingo Teachers’ College quarantine centre after close to 12 samples tested positive for SARS-CoV, the novel coronavirus which causes COVID-19 this Wednesday, a Zim Morning Post claims.

The publication cites its sources within the President’s Office as having said that 12 returnees, 6 from South Africa and another 6 from Botswana, tested positive for coronavirus.

A Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) official who spoke to the publication on condition of anonymity reportedly said the quarantine centre has no equipment to prevent the spread of the virus among the returnees. He is quoted as having said:

There is nothing right at Masvingo Teachers’ College COVID-19 quarantine centre.

Quarantined returnees from neighbouring South Africa and Botswana go about without personal protective equipment – not even face masks.

The Health Ministry usually releases its daily coronavirus updates in the evening but waited until Wednesday afternoon to release Tuesday’s update.

According to MoHCC, 7 more COVID-19 cases were recorded yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 63 up from 56.

Meanwhile, Masvingo Provincial Medical Director Amadeus Shamu told Zim Morning Post that the 12 cases are not yet confirmed and health officials are currently running some retests.
