Significant Number Of People Recover From Coronavirus In Zimbabwe

Almost half of the people who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Zimbabwe have fully recovered, a development that has been described as positive by doctors.

Zimbabwe currently has 56 known coronavirus cases and 25 of them are said to have fully recovered while 4 have succumbed to the virus.

Commenting on the development, the chairperson of the Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR), Fortune Nyamande, said:

It is a positive development that we are having more recoveries and relatively few deaths from Covid-19 in Zimbabwe, compared to other worst affected countries.
However, the underlying factors to these statistics are not yet fully understood as more research and evidence is needed.
The number of deaths is positively correlated to the severity of the cases and in our situation, we have mostly mild cases and hence fewer deaths.
Most severe cases which required hospitalisation and intensive care did not have encouraging outcomes and we need to rectify that.
This comes when the Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo has expressed concern over returnees and truck drivers who he said are importing the virus.
Meanwhile, the known global coronavirus cases as of May 26, 2020, 19:03 GMT, stood at 5 644 313 including 350 061 and 2 408 455 recoveries.
