99 Escape From Quarantine Facilities Countrywide

Close to a 100 people have escaped from different quarantine facilities countrywide as of yesterday, raising fears of spreading the deadly coronavirus and putting the government’s efforts to fight the pandemic in jeopardy, Sunday News reports.

The development was confirmed by ZRP National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who said:

I can confirm that 99 returnees have escaped from various quarantine centres across the country. However, some of them have been arrested. As police we have stepped up our patrols to ensure that returnees do not escape. We are working with other stakeholders such as the Ministry of Health and Child Care to ensure compliance. We also urge returnees to comply with the quarantine regulations.

Assistant Commissioner Nyathi also confirmed that theft cases were also on the rise in these quarantine facilities:

There are some people who had started stealing from fellow inmates in quarantine.
