MDC Infuriated By Deputy Minister's Remarks On 'Abducted And Tortured' Members

The opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has expressed anger after the Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Energy Mutodi, alleged that Joannah Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova choreographed their disappearance.

Mutodi posted on Twitter suggesting that MDC members and other human rights defenders who alleged that they had been kidnapped and tortured were merely attention seekers championing the regime change agenda.

In response to Mutodi’s allegations, Edwin Ndlovu of the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa said the Domboshava legislator did not know what he was saying. Ndlovu said:

He is clearly singing for his super. There is nothing like faking an abduction when we clearly know that some people in the MDC have gone missing. The government has failed to account for them and people like Itai Dzamara, Paul Chizuze, and others were also abducted. Does Mutodi mean that they abducted themselves?

MDC is of the conviction that the state was engineering the abductions and torture of the citizenry. Last year, the government alleged that there was a “third force” carrying out the kidnappings to soil the government’s image.

However, when police brutalised protestors in broad daylight, some dismissed the theory of the existence of a “third force.”
