China Sends 12 Medical Experts To Help Zimbabwe Tackle Coronavirus

12 Chinese medical experts have left Changsha, the provincial capital of Hunan Province en route to Harare where they will help Zimbabwe fight the novel coronavirus.

The medical experts departed from China on Monday morning along with medical supplies donated by the provincial government, which include ventilators, nucleic acid testing kits, face masks and medical protective suits.

The team is being led by Zhu Yimin, deputy director of the provincial health commission who said that Zimbabwe and some other African countries had lent a hand to China during the period when China was hard hit by COVID-19.

According to the People’s Daily, the 12 experts are from respiratory departments, infectious disease departments, and the fields of intensive medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, infection control, public health and nursing. Most of them have frontline experience in the prevention and control of COVID-19.

As of 10 May 2020, Zimbabwe had 36 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus.
