MDC-T acting president Thokozani Khupe has been dumped by her long-time aide Witness Dube, who has thrown his weight behind secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora.
Dube is convinced that Mwonzora, rather than Khupe has what it takes to confront ZANU PF head-on. The Standard quoted its source as having said:
Dube is supporting Mwonzora because he believes he is the better candidate, has better leadership skills and stands a better chance against Zanu PF, but he has received a backlash and is now facing threats of violence from those in Bulawayo, who feels he is betraying his former boss and the Matabeleland region.
Dube confirmed that he was backing Mwonzora and his decision has not gone well with Khupe’s supporters who are accusing him of sexism. Said, Dube:
I think from the people that are throwing their hats into the ring Mwonzora has a better skill set, he is more tolerant and shrewd.
I can’t be called a sexist and a sellout for my choice.
I served Khupe for 10 years and I think this sense of entitlement should just not be part of our politics.
We need leadership that can unite the party and allow us to move on.
Meanwhile, former MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu on Saturday said there was a need for Khupe and MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa to find each other otherwise the MDC will self-destruct.

If khupe thinks for a second that this Mwonzora vs Chamisa fight has anything to do with her then she is seriously in for a rude awakening.
Mark these words but Dougie has been gunning for the Presidency of the party after the death of Tsvangirai…and after he failed to be nominated by any province he was bitter and he started working on a strategy to undo everything.
Douglas Mwonzora has always been a Zanupf project inside the MDC. Silently working with zanupf the guy has been the handicap of the party since day one.
Ma Khupe will soon get a very rude awakening on or after July 31. She might as well just kiss her short-lived MDC-T Presidency days goodbye as she is soon to discover what this was all about.
Zanupf has been supporting mwonzora since time immemorial. Zanupf wants it puppet to lead the MDC-T.
Mwonzora has always been a zanupf member and the recent noise about MDC-T is a party, MDC-Alliance is not a party, is just drama to try(keyword) to undo Mnangagwas defeat at the 2018 July elections by Nelson Chamisa, lend mnangagwa some political capital at the same time donate the MDC-T to Mwonzora.
