Churches Defy Lockdown Restrictions

A Zion Christian Church (ZCC) branch in Victoria Falls is reportedly conducting services at their leader, Elder Rangarirai Sendama’s house in Mkhosana suburb.

Investigations by the Chronicle on Monday evening revealed that there were about 20 people who were praying close to each other at the house which is located about 400 metres from Mkhosana police base.

The reporters also noted that there was no facility for washing hands or a sanitiser.

However, Elder Sendama refuted claims that the church was holding services at his home.

He asserted that the people who visited his home were coming with different problems especially the sick who wanted to be prayed for. He said:

We once discussed with police who advised us to ensure that social distancing is observed and not to keep people here which is what we are doing.

We have raised awareness and our members bring their own sanitisers while we sometimes help visitors to wash their hands.

Meanwhile, ational police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police will investigate the matter since it is illegal for any church to gather.
