Zimbabwe’s Defence Minister Speaks On Alleged Deployment Of Army To Mozambique

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has dismissed reports which suggest that the country deployed its army to fight “the Islamic terrorist group” in neighbouring Mozambique.

Her statement comes after some government critics had already criticised the government for the “costly,” and “illogical move.” She said in a statement:

The Ministry of Defence would like to inform the public that it is not true that the ZDF deployed troops in Mozambique to fight some armed elements destabilising that country. The deployment allegations are not only outright falsehoods but malicious, hence fake news should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.

Some government critics were saying that the government risked worsening the economic and humanitarian crisis in the country as it did when it deployed troops to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Others were saying that the government was putting the lives of the citizenry in danger as the terror group would attack Zimbabwe in retaliation.
