Daring armed robbers reportedly raided ZIMRA’s Bulawayo depot and got away with 148 boxes of Broncleer a cough mixture taken as a euphoric drug, The Chronicle reports.
The consignment that was valued at around US$20 000 had been raided by the taxman as contraband after it was discovered concealed in between groceries.
According to a source that spoke to the publication, the robbers armed with a rifle threatened to shoot the security guards manning the depot before tying them up and offloading the impounded goods from the truck that was parked at the depot that had been impounded by the taxman in Bulawayo’s Raylton Industrial area.
ZRP National Spokesperson Assitant Inspector Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said:
I can confirm that we had a robbery case which occurred at the Zimra container depot in Bulawayo last night (Tuesday night) where security guards manning the premises were attacked by a group of robbers. The suspects used bolt cutters to destroy the locking system at the main entrance before they drove in
