Reinstated Secretary-General of the opposition MDC, Douglas Mwonzora has said that four legislators the party recalled from Parliament had already recalled themselves.
He said that the quartet, Kuwadzana East MP, Chalton Hwende; Dangamvura/Chikanga MP, Prosper Mutseyami; party national chairperson, Tabitha Khumalo and Senate chief whip, Lilian Timveous, by denying that they were members of the MDC-T, automatically expelled themselves from both the party. He said:
It is because of what they actually did individually, these are leaders… They made pronouncements that they were no longer members of the MDC-T but of the MDC Alliance party. The MDC-T was a member of the MDC Alliance yet they went on to say they formed the party in Gweru or so.
They had automatically expelled themselves, your membership terminates automatically upon joining a new party according to the constitution of the MDC-T.
The renewed power crisis in the party follows the Supreme Court ruling on the party stewardship that reinstated Thokozani Khupe as the leader and demoted Nelson Chamisa to a Secretary of Policy and Research.
The Supreme Court ruled that the party should hold an extraordinary congress to choose a successor to the late party founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai.
