Ramaphosa Appoints Masiyiwa To Coodinate Private Sector PPE Continental Procurement Initiative
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in his capacity as the AU Chair has appointed Zimbabwean businessperson to coordinate the private sector-led continental efforts to procure PPE in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that has brought the world to its knees, The Chronicle reports.
This was revealed in a communique after a teleconference meeting of the bureau of the assembly to the AU Heads of State and Government last week.
Part of the communique announcing Strive’s appointment said:
President Ramaphosa informed the meeting that he had appointed Zimbabwean businessman Strive Masiyiwa to coordinate a private sector-led continental effort to procure critical personal protective equipment and other essential supplies.
The meeting endorsed the establishment of a forum on African business leaders to support efforts by the AU and member States to implement the continental Covid-19 strategy
