Pregnant Women Fret Over Baby Clothes Shops Closure

Pregnant women in Hwange District have implored the government to allow shops that sell baby clothes to open during the current coronavirus lockdown so that can buy essential items for their preparations.

Organisations representing women’s rights have also appealed to the Government to consider including shops selling baby clothes on the list of essential services.

An expectant mother, Nomagugu Mguni-Mwepu of Mkhosana suburb spoke to the Chronicle about pregnant women’s predicament. She said:

I only bought a few items and I had planned to buy more few weeks before my due date but now the shops are closed as a result of the lockdown.

Authorities should allow shops selling baby clothes and other related products to open probably a day or two in a week to serve expectant mothers like us.

Meanwhile, Women Coalition of Zimbabwe Hwange chapter president Cathrine Madondo said her organisation has been approached by a significant number of expectant mothers seeking assistance.

Expectant mothers are supposed to have vests, rompers, tracksuits, shawls, socks, hats, wrappers and baby blankets as part of their preparations.
