Britons, Europeans Urged To Eat More Steak, Chips And Cheese During Lockdown

Producers of food in the United Kingdom and Europe are urging customers to eat more steak, chips and cheese during the lockdown as there is too much food available.

The food surplus has been caused by the closure of restaurants and bars in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

There was widespread panic-buying in supermarkets across the continent in March as people responded to the coronavirus crisis, and producers are now urging people to restock.

In Belgium, the demand for frozen potatoes has taken a nosedive in the recent weeks, with the Belgian industry facing a possible loss of €125m if thousands of tonnes of surplus spuds go unsold this year.

In the United Kingdom, more expensive cuts of meats, normally used by restaurants, are also going unsold.
