More Than 143K Sign Petition Calling For DStv To Cut Its Prices

More than 140 000 people have signed an online petition calling for pay-TV provider DStv to cut its prices for South Africa.

The petition was launched by Sifiso Gwala a week ago over DStv’s “ill-treatment” of South Africa after the pay-TV reduced prices for other African countries.

Eyewitness News reports that on the day of launch, the petition had 109,016 signatures by midday on Wednesday afternoon.

In the petition, Gwala said:

DSTV drops prices for the rest of Africa except South Africa and now this. We’re being taken for granted here #DstvMustFall.

The petition comes after DStv last year reviewed its prices down in other African countries including Kenya and Nigeria.

Meanwhile, some are saying it is pointless to sign the petition urging those who want relief to sample alternatives including streaming which is said to be effective and probably cheaper than DStv.

The petition also comes when South Africa, like many other countries, is on national lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus. The majority of citizens are not working hence a limited fiscal space.

DStv is yet to respond to the petition.
