Govt Issues A Controversial Statement That Suspends April Rental Payments

The government has issued a statement claiming it has prohibited both commercial and residential property owners from demanding rentals for the month of April till the lockdown is over,

This was tweeted by Information Ministry secretary Nick Mangwana who said:

Cabinet has resolved that there be a moratorium on both commercial and residential evictions due to applicable lease obligations due from April to end of #LockdownZim, including payment of rentals for those months.

It is still not clear how this will be enforced and how private property owners will be affected by such a moratorium. We will update this article as new details emerge.
