Nelson Chamisa, a leader in the opposition MDC has said that the “wave of freedom” in South Africa must submerge the whole of Africa.
He made the remarks in his message to commemorate South Africa’s 26th Independence from the apartheid government. He tweeted:
Today is Freedom day in SouthAfrica. May the breeze of freedom blow across Africa esp north of Limpopo to shake all the pillars of tyranny & roots of injustice. Let the wave of freedom engulf the African continent for eternal joy of its people! Happy freedom day & God bless SA!
Chamisa’s speaks amid reports of massive human rights abuses in the majority of African states. There are reports of arrests and forced disappearances of opposition leaders in many African leaders.
In 2019, the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party was blocked from holding a number of demonstrations and the party claims that the state is responsible for the abduction and torture as well as murder of its members and other human rights defenders.
