Treat Football Legends With Respect - Moses Chunga

Zimbabwean football legend and former Warriors captain Moses “Bambo” Chunga feels that local football greats of yesteryear are underappreciated.

Bambo argued that football is not growing in Zimbabwe because of the disdain shown towards football legends.

Sometimes, it is very difficult for them to enter stadiums and watch football matches and can have dogs unleashed on them, Bambo lamented.

When the Warriors legends played the Barcelona legends in Harare in 2017, the former were each paid $3 000 while the latter were paid $50 000 per player. Said Chunga:

One of the reasons our game continues to lag behind is that we don’t recognise and appreciate the role our football legends played.

For example, you can imagine we were paid a paltry US$3 000 each while the Barcelona legends went home with around US$50 000.

Last year, former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari had to jump over a fence to get into Barbourfields Stadium to watch a match after he was denied free entry.
