South Africa Reveals It’s 5 Lockdown ‘Alert’ Levels

The South African government has announced “Alert” lockdown levels in a bid to restore the country back to normalcy gradually.

On Thursday, the country’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa said South Africa will reopen at level 4 on 1 May 2020 following weeks under lockdown to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Below is a summary of what each of the five “alert” levels entails:

ALERT LEVEL 5
Drastic measures to contain the spread of the virus and save lives.

ALERT LEVEL 4
Extreme precautions to limit community transmission and outbreaks, while allowing some activity to resume.

ALERT LEVEL 3
Restrictions on many activities, including at workplaces and socially, to address a high risk of transmission.

ALERT LEVEL 2
Physical distancing activity and restrictions on leisure and social activities to prevent a resurgence of the virus.

ALERT LEVEL 1
Most normal activity can resume, with precautions and health guidelines followed at all times. Population prepared for an increase in alert levels if necessary.
