Health Caregivers In Panic Mode As Patient Tests Positive For Coronavirus And Eventually Dies

Zimbabwean journalist and documentary filmmaker, Hopewell Chin’ono has claimed that health caregivers at Westend Hospital in Harare are in panic mode after a patient they had admitted tested positive for coronavirus and eventually died.

The patient in question was reported by the Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo as the country’s fourth coronavirus death.

Posting on Twitter in the early hours of Wednesday, Chin’ono said:

There was panic at West End hospital this evening when a patient in their care tested positive to the Coronavirus. Healthcare professionals who had contact with her are scared & worried. Sadly, the patient died two hours later. Our healthcare professionals face serious trauma!
Responding to the tweet, some urged health institutions and health caregivers to assume that every patient tested positive for coronavirus until results prove otherwise.
Others called for mandatory testing of every patient admitted at health institutions adding that the current set up is conducive for the spreading of the virus.
Authorities have also been urged to adopt a rigorous approach to testing, screening, quarantining and tracking contacts of those who would have tested positive so as to minimise and possibly stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
