BP Patients Bear The Brunt Of Lockdown Restrictions

The lockdown has weighed heavily on people suffering from hypertension (BP/HBP) as the movement restrictions have made it difficult for them to travel to access their medication from pharmacies.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) secretary-general Raymond Majongwe has shared on Twitter the predicament faced by a teacher who is failing to access medication because of the lockdown. (She) wrote:

… ndine problem yandikufunga kuti ine vamwe vangu vakawanda. I’m a BP patient. Ndinotora medication everyday. Mapills angu ndinosiwana kuPSMAS nemedical aid.

Since lockdown pharmacy yepa Makoni has been closed. This has meant kuti ndinofanira kutenga cash kune mamwe mapharmacy.

Ndinofunga kuti there are so many of our members vari musituation yangu iyi but who are suffering in silence.

Can’t the Union raise this issue so that we can be helped. I understand gvt made that pledge soon after announcing the first 21 days of lockdown kuti money was set aside for psmas to supply medication during this time.

I have a problem, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I’m a hypertensive patient.

I need to get medication daily and normally I access my pills through PSMAS medical aid.

However, since the lockdown commenced, the phamarcy at Makoni Shopping Centre (Chitungwiza) has been closed. As a result, I have to get my medication from other pharmacies.

I’m convinced there a so many of our members in the same predicament but are suffering in silence.

Can’t the Union raise this issue so that we can be helped? I understand [government] made that pledge soon after announcing the first 21 days of lockdown that money was set aside for PSMAS to supply medication during this time.

How do we travel to get into town to get our medication? Last time I tried to get into town and I [showed the security officials my prescription] but was turned at the flyover.
