Chief Mutasa Responds To "Mysterious" Death Of 3 Apostolic Church Members Who Died During Easter Prayers

Three members of the Sungano Apostolic Sect, Timothy Mandeya (23), Roderick Mafongoyo (28) and Nigel Maimbo (17) of Chikanga reportedly died in a Murahwa Hills cave, Mutare, during a 10-day Easter prayer session.

The church’s leader, Bishop Rackson Samunda claims that one of the survivors had said mysterious ghosts were witnessed before the three’s death. Samunda said:

We were informed by one of the survivors that they discovered that their colleagues had remained inside the tunnel. They quickly went back in to search of them, but instead met three dreadlocked men who rebuked them for praying in the cave, before mysteriously disappearing.

Acting Chief Mutasa said the mountain in question is a no go area for such activities. He said:

That is a sacred area. Yes, we are a free country but some areas cannot be visited willy-nilly.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, however, dismissed claims of mystery and encouraged members of the public to wait for investigations to be concluded.

He suggested that the trio could have suffocated since there was too much smoke in the tunnel they were using as shelter.

The church service was held when all gatherings are banned in Zimbabwe for 21 days to stop the spread of coronavirus.
