Health Minister Says Part Of Parirenyatwa To Be Turned Into COVID-19 Treatment Facility

The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo, has said that part of Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals premises is being prepared to be used as a treatment facility for coronavirus.

Zimbabwe has very limited facilities set designated for infectious diseases and these few are also ill-equipped to contain the virus.

Moyo made the remarks after touring the referral hospital to appreciate progress on the ground. He said:

The hospital is currently in the process of converting part of the hospital into a COVID-19 treatment facility.

The Minister dismissed fears about the crossing of infections into the hospital saying coronavirus patients will be isolated.

There were fears that the move would risk the lives of other patients in the maternity unit, out-patients wing, private wards, general public wards, eye centre, a school of nursing and staff residences.

The development comes when some learning institutions and churches around the country are being turned into isolation centres for coronavirus patients.
