A law lecturer in the United Kingdom, Alex Tawanda Magaisa who is also a former advisor to the late former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai has said that the leadership crisis in the opposition MDC goes far beyond the popularity of actors.
Magaisa observes that in addition to having the advantage of numbers, Nelson Chamisa will win the race based on how he and Thokozani Khupe relate with the ruling ZANU PF. He said:
The average MDC supporter does not just consider who is popular. They also consider what they represent and in particular, the relationship of their leaders to ZANU PF. The point has already been made that the moment an MDC leader is associated with ZANU PF, it’s a huge burden to carry. The fact that Khupe is already running with ZANU PF is a severe point of disadvantage in the eyes of MDC Alliance supporters.
He also asserts that Khupe had an upper hand had she “remained steadfast in her political strategy of resistance to ZANU PF while insisting on her heirship to Tsvangirai’s leadership.”
Magaisa adds that Khupe lost the competitive edge when she competed against and mocked MDC Alliance and worsened matters by joining POLAD.

If the truth be told from a sober perspective, vaMagaisa is part of this unending problem. He was invited to advise the late, in good faith, now wants steer clear. Not fair. I would be happier for these respectable members of our generation to be truthful. What we want is not anything to do with the numbers/winning but constitutionalism, legitimacy, rule of law etc. That is the obtaining discussion and not deviations.
as much as you would like to uphold the rule of law also remember that the law is made for the people so anything even the law itself that undermines that is particularly dangerous. Vese vava nema political parties so let it continue that way unless if Chamisa or anyone else is violating Khupe’s rights in anyway then maybe we will need a court.
