Enforcement Of Lockdown: Heavy Police And Army Presence On All Roads Leading Into CBDs

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) on Friday increased their presence on all roads leading into the central business district with reports suggesting that no car was being allowed into the CBD.

The development is understood to be a way to implement the 21-day lockdown which the government imposed to stop the spread of coronavirus.

ZRP have since banned the movement of vehicles or people during Easter Holidays saying that vehicles of the defiant will be impounded.

All passengers going into town are being asked to produce letters from employers indicating they are part of the skeletal staff manning offices and or factories during this period.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa last night expressed concern over the high number of people violating the lockdown regulations. She said:

It is disheartening to note that some citizens are willing to put themselves and those around them at risk by flouting the lockdown regulations.

She made the remarks while updating journalists on the post-COVID-19 Taskforce daily meeting at State House in Harare.

The Herald reports that 3 251 people had been arrested on Friday for violating lockdown measures.
