Harare Seeks $41 Million To Uplift Morton Jaffray Waterworks

The City of Harare is seeking $41 Million to boost its main water plant Morton Jaffray Waterworks, the Daily News reports. The city fathers have reportedly applied for the funds from the local government so that they optimise the plant that services Harare, Chitungwiza and Norton.

This comes when the council is trying to provide portable water to Harare residents during the COVID-19 pandemic after it was sued by some residents for failing to frequently provide water to residents to curb spreading COVID-19

A report by the council which shed more light on the request reads in part:

Council and private bowsers were used to cart water to Mabvuku, Tafara, Budiriro CABS, Budiriro 5B, Msasa Park, Greendale, Hatcliffe, Mt Pleasant and Kambuzuma. 68 boreholes in the western suburbs were covered. These were sanitised and officers were present to enforce social distancing.

A request for $41 million to ensure optimisation of Morton Jaffray water treatment plant has been submitted to the government. This is meant to increase water production and supply to residents of Harare.
