Doctors Sue Govt Over Shortage Of Protective Clothing
The Zimbabwe Doctors for Human Rights (ZDHR) has approached the High Court to compel the Government to provide adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) for health personnel to protect them from COVID-19.
The ZDHR filed an urgent chamber application on Monday with Ministers Obadiah Moyo (Health and Child Care), Mthuli Ncube (Finance) and Joel Biggie Matiza (Transport) as first, the second and third respondent, respectively.
On Tuesday Moyo said he had yet to be served with the papers. He said:
The Government has that obligation to make sure that health workers are protected from this infection. We need to protect our frontline soldiers who are battling this virus.
We need adequate protection for them. Even those in private practice are being affected because patients first consult private doctors.

The doctors are represented by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe has recorded 11 COVID-19 positive cases and 2 deaths. The latest death was of a 79-year-old Bulawayo man whose coronavirus diagnosis was confirmed after he had passed away raising concerns about the country’s ability to adequately deal with the pandemic.
