Mnangagwa Comes Face To Face With The Misery Of Harare Residents

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Sunday made an impromptu tour of Harare’s high-density suburbs and Chitungwiza where he witnessed first-hand the untold suffering being experienced by Zimbabweans.

Mnangagwa’s long motorcade drove through Mabvuku, Tafara, Kuwadzana, Mufakose, Budiriro, Glenview, Zengeza and Chitungwiza.

Speaking at the end of the tour, George Charamba, the spokesman for the presidency, said:

This allowed the president to meet society in its spontaneous, unorganised form in order to gauge what really goes on behind protestations of compliance.

Happily, Zimbabweans did not disappoint. Even on community water points, the Zimbabwe Republic Police and municipal police jointly manned and organised communities for order and social distancing.

It became clear that the water supply situation in our cities and towns needs urgent attention.

The majority of Zimbabweans spend hours in queues to buy the scarce maize meal staple or at water holes to fetch the precious liquid.

The 21-day lockdown has forced thousands to spend days on empty stomachs as they can no longer hustle for food, fearing arrest for violating stay-at-home restrictions.
