Zimbabwe Republic Police have reportedly arrested around 19 people for violating President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 21-day lockdown decree.
The decree was announced last week as a measure to stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Citizens were ordered to stay in their homes unless they are going out “for essentials services including health and food.”
We present below a video clip circulating on social media of police officers beating the unidentified citizen who is heard saying that they were breaking his leg.
The incident reportedly took place today on Highway Road in Ridgeview, Harare. Reports suggest that the victims were found walking outside by about half a dozen officers driving around in an open truck.

Taking this video at face value, one wonders what training policemen receive. ZRP can forget their Mossion Statement. Such incidentd nullify their Mission and in fact makes a mockery of it. Stress caused by Covid-19, by our econimic maliase and several other factors does not need to be aggrevated by police brutality. A stern warning to return indoors would have sufficed. Besides, do the regulations not permit for a person to be out for a jog, a walk to get fresh air, exercise? ZRP enforce regulations with discernment.
