Vendors In Chitungwiza And Highfields Set Up Shop Despite The Lockdown - Report

Vendors in Chitungwiza and Highfields’ Lusaka area reportedly brought their wares and were seen setting up their stalls yesterday despite the president’s 21 days lockdown directive aimed at curbing the speed of COVID-19, The Herald reports.

The matter came to light as the ZRP national spokesperson gave an update of police activities during the day when he announced that they had to dismiss 200 vendors in Highfields and a further 70 vendors in Chitungwiza.

Said Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi:

Meanwhile, police have managed to peacefully disperse about 200 vendors who had forcibly entered into Lusaka Produce Market, Highfield.

At least 70 people were also dispersed in Unit H, Chitungwiza. While the police were dispersing the crowd, Luckson Rukainga (28) started to throw stones at the police vehicle. He was immediately arrested,
