Huge Blow For Chamisa As Supreme Court Rules In Favour Of Khupe

The Supreme Court has ruled that Thokozani Khupe is the legitimate leader of the opposition MDC that was founded by the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

The power wrangle in the party had resulted in the split of the party with Khupe leaving to lead the MDC-T while Nelson Chamisa, who retained the majority of the party was left leading MDC-Alliance.

The Supreme Court upheld a High Court judgment which was in favour of Khupe. Chamisa who was not happy with the ruling then appealed at the Supreme Court.

The High Court ruling had ordered the MDC to restore the 2015 leadership and this leaves Khupe as the Vice President of the party hence leader since Tsvangirai is no more while Chamisa is reduced to a secretary for policy and research.
