Harare Residents Sue The City Council And The Government For Failure To Provide Adequate Water During A Pandemic

Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) has filed an urgent application filed at the High Court against Harare City Council and the government for failure to provide residents with adequate water to be used during the 21 days lockdown, The Herald reports.

CHRA want the city and the local government compelled to immediately contract bulk water service providers to provide mobile water tanks to ease crowding at community boreholes. They also want the Finance Ministry forced to immediately release money to buy water treatment chemicals in bulk to ensure that the local authority increases water supply to residents.

According to the publication, the city is currently producing 170 megaliters of water against a demand of 1200 liters.
