Harare Institue Builds Ventilator For Coronavirus Patients. Can Produce 40 A Day

The Harare Institute of Technology has developed a ventilator which will be soon be deployed to help in the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Publicity Ndavaningi “Nick” Mangwana through a post on Twitter:

When Prof Murwira said @HarareInstitute had developed a ventilator, soon to be deployed to help fight #Covid19Zim, even this believer had a flicker of doubt until I accompanied the Deputy Minister and Higher Education PS there this morning.- Potential to make 40/day of these.

Reports claim that Zimbabwe has less than two dozen ventilators in all its hospitals, while Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospital, which was designated as the centre to treat coronavirus patients, does not even a single ventilator.

Recently, journalist Zororo Makamba passed away at Wilkins Hospital after authorities failed to find a plug for a ventilator that had been bought by his family.

Makamba had been admitted at the centre after he tested positive for COVID-19.
