Suspected Robber Arrested After High Speed Chase From Harare CBD To UZ Farm

Police officers arrested a 38-year-old robbery suspect after a high-speed chase from Harare Central Business District (CBD) to Bindura Road near the University of Zimbabwe farm.

Cleopas Mupande was arrested after he had abandoned his vehicle and took to his heels, while his accomplice, a suspected ex-police officer escaped. A post on the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Twitter handle reads:

A robbery suspect Cleopas Mapande (38) is in police custody after he was arrested following a high-speed chase with the police where he was subsequently arrested at the UZ farm along Bindura road. His accomplice who is believed to be an ex-police officer escaped.

The accused persons who were driving a yellow Honda Fit Reg AEV 8205 tailed the complainant from the CBD until he decided to report at ZRP Marlborough. While the complainant was in the police station the accused remained in the vicinity and police officers pounced on them.

They ignored all efforts by the police including shots at their vehicle to stop them until they got to a dead end, where they took to their heels leading to the arrest of the accused.

Accused were found in possession of articles for criminal use including an iron bar, craw bar, T bar and a screwdriver. It is suspected that the accused and his accomplice targeted money changers.
