President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba has dismissed as “miserable partisanship” the critiques to the government’s decision to allow Sakunda Holdings to refurbish and use St Anne’s and Arundel Hospitals for six months.
Critiques say that the move is a strategy to establish private health institutions for political elites in the country, particularly in the ruling ZANU PF.
They add that the state is diverting equipment donated by Jack Ma the founder of Alibaba and Alibaba Foundation into the institutions.
We present Charamba’s twitter thread below.
St Anne’s Hospital has been idle for donkey years, with our chattering billionaires watching and admiring this idleness. Equally, Kereke’s place has been unutilized for donkey years ever since its owner went to prison. The first belongs to the Catholic Church; the second to Kereke.
No one had the mind and means to approach either establishment for a takeover. Some Zimbabwean finally does that IN PUBLIC INTEREST, and the hue and cry starts, led by a broke constituency which has no spoon, huge fright and hot words to their names. Toteerera izvozvo pano??
If you have any misgivings about this move – WHICH GOVT SUPPORTS – go get services elsewhere run by entrepreneurs you approve. Same with the Chinese: lots of rheum against them. In comes one JACK MA – a Chinese – to donate to Africa including Zimbabwe. Suddenly everyone is an AUDITOR of donations by this CHINESE!!!! Meanwhile, MDC-led council runs down Wilkins, to celebration by the MDC leader; no one talks, raises a finger. Do you expect anyone to take such gross, grim partisanship seriously? To care?? Maybe in another life!!!
