Jack Ma And Alibaba Foundation Donate Coronavirus Response Equipment To Zimbabwe

The Ministry of Health and Child Care on Tuesday announced that it had received “commodities” from Jack Ma and Alibaba Foundation to intensify the country’s efforts in fighting the novel Coronavirus.

Jack Ma is a Chinese is a Chinese business magnate, investor and politician as well as the co-founder and former executive chairman of Alibaba Group, a multinational technology conglomerate.

In a statement to update the nation on the coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry said:

The Ministry today received a consignment of commodities from the Jack Ma and Alibaba Foundation through the African Union, to help strengthen and intensify surveillance, laboratory testing and case management of COVID-19 in Zimbabwe. The consignment included 20 000 laboratory diagnostic test kits, 100 000 medical face masks and 1 000 protective suits and face shields.

The Ministry is very grateful to the Jack Ma and Alibaba Foundations for their generosity and contribution to the National COVID-19 response and will ensure equitable distribution of this consignment so that they get to where there is the greatest need.

The consignment is received immediately after the family of Zororo Makamba, the Zimbabwean 30-year-old journalist who succumbed to coronavirus, exposed the country’s ill-preparedness to contain the virus.
