Highlanders Suspends Group Training Activities

Highlanders FC has suspended all group training activities with immediate effect until further notice following three confirmed cases of coronavirus in Zimbabwe.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the club’s chairperson, Kenneth Mhlope said:

Highlanders Football Club have shelved all group training activities with immediate effect until further notice. All players and staff have been advised to adhere to strict social distancing protocols.

We encourage our players and the staff to exercise a high level of self-discipline by avoiding public gatherings and unnecessary movement during this difficult time.

The club notes with great concern the rapid rise of confirmed cases across the globe, and the confirmation of cases in our own country, of which one case has resulted in the sad and untimely loss of a young talented life — Zororo Makamba.

To the Makamba family, and the entire nation we would like to convey our deepest condolences.

Makamba passed away on Monday after becoming the second person to test positive for the disease in the country.

He had earlier this month travelled to the United States of America and returned home through Johannesburg, South Africa.
