The Government Still To Retrieve 82 Bodies Swept Away Into Mozambique During Cyclone Idai

The government is being accused of selling the people of Chimanimani a dummy after they promised to retrieve the bodies that were swept away to Mozambique during last year’s Cyclone Idai, The Zimbabwean reports.

According to the publication,  82 bodies were swept into Mozambique during the devastating Cyclone Idai and the locals buried them. The government then made a promise to the people of Chimanimani to bring home their dead relatives so that they can bury them, but nothing has been done so far.

A Chimanimani lady Julliet Machangira who lost her 2 sons in the cyclone spoke to the publication and said:

We need closure. The truth will set us free. The government promised us money to go to Mozambique to do our own search, but that was the last we heard about it. I want to talk to the locals who buried the floating bodies to identify my sons.

According to Juliet people are still living in camps erected by the government and the United Nations.
