MDC Candidate Wins Chegutu Council Seat 56 Votes Ahead Of The Zanu PF Candidate

The MDC candidate for Chegutu Ward 2 Tinokura Rydes Machekera yesterday managed to retain the seat that was left vacant by Memory Banda who died last year, New Zimbabwe reports.

Machekera only managed to garner 56 votes more than Zanu PF’s Prosper Matongerwa who polled 184 votes. Delivering his victory speech Machekera said:

I would like to thank people in Chegutu Ward 2 for having faith in me. I am promising to be a listening and a report back councillor.

My victory in the ward has proven that people here have faith in a popular brand led by President Nelson Chamisa. Zanu is no longer needed because of its culture of impunity, corruption and above all it doesn’t deliver.
