FULL TEXT: "The Govt Must Be Truthful About Coronavirus," EFF Zimbabwe

EFF Zimbabwe has said that the government is not truthful and transparent about the country’s status on the preparedness against the novel coronavirus.

We present the party’s full statement below.

EFF Zimbabwe is heartbroken by the Government’s failure to correctly inform the public of the danger they are exposed to due to Covid 19.

The government has lied to the citizens that all is under control when in actual fact the the situation is worse than what people can imagine.

The Namibian case is a tip of an iceberg, a man left Zimbabwe to Namibia upon his arrival he was confirmed to be carrying the virus. The man left Zimbabwe with Covid 19 and the government failed to detect it, yet they have the bravado to misinform the public.

It is possible that there are many people who came into the country and never left, the government like in the Namibian case is failing to identify such people which means these people are still spreading Covid 19.

The Namibian case proves that the Government has no effective capacity to detect Covid 19, yet the same government assures the world that it has what it takes to handle all Covid 19 issues.

Based on the Namibian case it has become clear that the government is ill-prepared, and it has all the information about Covid 19 in the country but is not prepared to realistically warn the citizens.

It also appears that the government is suppressing information on Chinese cases, and the dangers of suppressing such information is that the country will have a serious Covid 19 the outbreak which may become difficult to control.

EFF Zimbabwe, therefore, demands the government to be truthful to its own people and introduce awareness campaigns and programmes because COVID-19 is a serious pandemic that has claimed thousands of lives worldwide.
