Govt To Launch New Biofuel Policy

Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune Chasi said that the government will this Thursday launch a new Biofuel Policy.

Chasi told delegates attending the International Renewable Energy Conference and Expo in Victoria Falls recently that the new energy policy will be launched on March 19. He said:

We need to decarbonise, decentralise and digitise the energy sector across the continent.

To this end, we have produced a Biofuels Policy of Zimbabwe which is set to be launched together with the National Renewable Energy Policy on the 19th of this month.

Chasi added that the new policy seeks to increase the production of ethanol and biodiesel from plant sources, among other things.

Zimbabwe has been experiencing debilitating fuel and energy challenges for several years, a development that has negatively affected both industrial and domestic consumers.
