ZANU PF Disrupts Yet Another Parliamentary Portfolio Committee Meeting

Members of Parliament belonging to the ruling ZANU PF on Monday disrupted another Parliamentary Portfolio Committee (PPC) Meeting over the opposition MDC’s refusal t acknowledge President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the legitimate president of Zimbabwe.

The PPC on Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) chaired by MDC’s Secretary General Chalton Hwende failed to hear oral evidence on allegations of abuse of public funds at NetOne after Zanu PF legislators disrupted the proceedings accusing Hwende of refusing to recognize president Mnangagwa.

Hwende said that the committee will next week summon NetOne again amid allegations that the State-Owned Mobile Network Operator has been buying furniture for Zanu PF.

The development comes when a recent evaluation at NetOne opened a can of worms which will likely see the entire board being fired.

ZANU PF resorted to disrupting PPC meetings last year after MDC legislators boycotted or walked out of a number of Parliamentary events that were attended by President Mnangagwa.

The MDC is refusing to acknowledge Mnangagwa whom they accuse of conniving with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to steal the 2018 presidential election.

Since 2018, there has been a standoff between ZANU PF and MDC, a situation analysts believe is exacerbating the economic and humanitarian as well as the political crises in the country.
