Harare City And Zinara Issue Contradicting Statements On Road Rehabilitation Fund

Harare City Council (HCC) Mayor Herbert Gomba has refuted claims by Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara)’s acting chief executive officer Engineer Moses Chigonyati that HCC had been given road rehabilitation funds.

Chigonyati had said that HCC was allocated ZWL46 504 212 for 2020, the council had set aside for routine maintenance which is paid in advance.

The Zinara Chief must be clear and must not seek to give inconclusive answers, is it not true they intended to give us ZWL5 million on a quarterly basis and are yet to.

He (Zinara boss) said $20 million is meant for routine road maintenance, true but has it been released to council and is he ready to show this publication the proof of transfers.

This comes when roads in the capital are in a deplorable state with the local government authority citing the inadequacy of financial resources as the impediment to the crucial rehabilitation.

The City fathers blame Zinara for delaying the payment of the road rehabilitation fund. Gomba said the money would go a long way towards the rehabilitation of the roads in the capital although the total disbursement it is still insufficient.
