Coronavirus Stalls Construction Of New Parliament Building

The construction of the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden has slowed down after 100 technocrats who had travelled to China for their annual leave failed to return following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The outbreak has also delayed the shipment of equipment that is stuck in China which comprises of transformers, furniture, air conditioners and distribution boxes.

The new Parliament building is being constructed by Shanghai Construction Group of China under a government to government agreement.

The new building can hold 600 people and is designed to accommodate all members of the National Assembly and Senate members.

The construction of the superstructure is complete, with the focus now shifting to the interior.
