"Should President Mnangagwa Abandon Jokes?" - Nick Mangwana

The Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana has defended President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ‘jokes’ saying that those who “deliberately miss them take themselves too seriously for nothing”.

Mangwana speaks when the nation is divided over the appropriateness of the president’s ‘jokes’ and whether he should continue using them when engaging his audience or not. He said:

It is a beautiful device. Sometimes he uses dark humour to drive a point home or even to debunk a hitherto taboo subject. Some define “dark humour” as a form of humour involving a twist or joke that is sometimes seen as offensive, harsh or even horrid.

Mnangagwa recently said that he would send a team to check and punish those whose homes shall be found with cockroaches and to some, it brings to rememberance the statement he said on dissidents in the 80s that was followed by Gukurahundi.

He also revealed how, when he was still the legislator for Mbizo, announced that he would give a prize to a family which would be the first to bring their dead to a mortuary he had constructed.
