Suspected Coronavirus Case Identified At Wits University, Johannesburg

The University of the Witwatersrand has reported that it identified a suspected case of the Covid-19 coronavirus and has since quarantined the student.

The university which is located in Johannesburg revealed in a statement issued this Friday that the student was quarantined after getting in contact with a person who had been identified as having the virus. The University said in a statement:

The student is being monitored closely and has not displayed any symptoms of Covid-19. The student has been screened and the test results are expected later today.

However, as a precautionary measure, the faculty has cancelled the clinical activities scheduled for the student’s class today. We will keep you updated as soon as we have any further information.

Covid-19, commonly known as the coronavirus emerged in China in December last year and has since spread to many countries globally.

It is also spreading rapidly in Africa thereby causing great panic as most of the health systems on the continent are collapsed hence incapacitated to prevent and or contain the virus.
